Salad Boys began as most bands do, in a practice space with half a dozen song ideas and a wee bit of desperation for attention. From relentless practising, touring and demoing the band caught the ear of US label Trouble In Mind and inked a deal in 2015. The result was Salad Boys’ debut LP Metalmania, a short and sweet garage-pop stunner that earned praise from NME, Pitchfork, Stereogum and many others. In September 2015 the band travelled to the US and toured for five weeks – aside from covering most of the country they performed live to air on Seattle’s revered KEXP radio and played at Jack White’s Third Man Records in Nashville. 2016 saw Salad Boys begin work on their second LP and take part in various showcases up and down New Zealand, one particular highlight being an acoustic performance at the Isaac Theatre Royal in Christchurch. This year the band return to full scale touring, starting off with a national tour of New Zealand in March and a return to the USA in October.
"[Salad Boys] have proven themselves capable of holding their own with the best indie pop their country has to offer. "
Jes Skolnik, Pitchfork.com
"Salad Boys are another fine example of the oddball brilliance that naturally flows out of New Zealand like a never-ending stream. "
Tim Sendra, Allmusic.com.
"Salad Boys are all about intense riffs, laid back vocals, entrancing repetition and a plethora of pop melodies. "
